This website is a dog care resource for dog lovers and owners. I am taking what I learned during my almost 20 years of experience raising puppies and dogs to share ideas, tips, tricks with you.

Growing up, I always had a passion for dogs. My husband grew up with the same passion. We took that passion and started raising golden retriever. We are proud to be able to say that many of our Robertson’s Retrievers have competed in dog shows and track and field competitions. We also have several of our goldens that work with hospice patients and veterans.

     Raising our goldens has always been a family business

After being raised in the suburbs of Detroit, my husband, Brian, and I decided we wanted to live in the country. In 2001, we moved our family to “the thumb” of Michigan. We now live in the middle of farm country. In fact, we are the only house on our side of the street for over a mile.

My husband had worked with German shepherds when he was in the military. After our move, we decided to get back to his roots, but with golden retrievers. Once we started raising goldens, we knew to do it right, to give the dogs and puppies the care and attention they need, it needed to be a full-time job.

Brian stopped working as a licensed builder to be able to work with our dogs full-time. As a nurse, I get four days off a week to be able to work with our dogs. In addition, our four kids play a big role in raising our dogs. Each one of our goldens is a big part of our family!

When we have puppies, we have daily, what my kids call “Puppy School” or “Puppy Time”. We spend hours playing with the puppies using toys, different textures, different surfaces (like a slide or a wobble board). We also start our puppies on certain training techniques.

Raising puppies and dogs over the years, we have learned a lot. And we continue to learn. We have found things that work. In addition, we have found things that haven’t worked.

 We are often asked advice about raising puppies and dogs, suggestions on products, training, the “do’s” and “don’ts”, just to name a few. After years of sharing what we have learned with our Robertson’s Retrievers family, I have decided to start this website to share this information with dog lovers like you.
